A fire erupted on Friday at Sector 18, Shankaracharya Marg in the Mahakumbh Mela Kshetra in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Several fire tenders were dispatched to the scene, and rescue operations are currently in progress.
According to a report by news agency PTI, fire officials confirmed that no casualties have been reported so far.
Inspector Yogesh Chaturvedi of Khak Chowk police station stated that the fire broke out at a camp near Tulsi Chauraha on Old GT Road. However, he assured that firefighters had largely brought the situation under control.
Authorities continue to monitor the site as fire department officials work to completely douse the flames and assess the damage.
This incident follows a fire outbreak last month in Prayagraj, where 15 tents in an open area were engulfed in flames. The fire occurred in the Chatnag Ghat Police Station jurisdiction.
In addition to fire-related incidents, a tragic stampede at the Kumbh Mela on January 29 led to 30 fatalities and 60 injuries.
The Mahakumbh Mela, which commenced on January 13, will continue until February 26. The upcoming major bathing (‘snan’) dates include February 12 (Maghi Purnima) and February 26 (Maha Shivaratri).
