The Enforcement Directorate conducted searches at four to five premises of the prominent real estate group Hiranandani in and around Mumbai on Thursday, following allegations of foreign exchange violations, PTI reported, citing sources.

The probe focuses on alleged contraventions of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA). The case is however unrelated to another FEMA investigation involving Trinamool Congress leader Mahua Moitra, who was recently expelled as a Lok Sabha MP.

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey had accused Moitra of targeting the Adani group and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Lok Sabha inquiries at the behest of businessman Darshan Hiranandani, in exchange for gifts. Darshan Hiranandani is the son of real estate magnate Niranjan Hiranandani, who heads the Hiranandani group.

Dubey further alleged that Moitra compromised national security for monetary gain. Moitra refuted these claims, asserting that she was being targeted for raising questions about the Adani group’s deals.
