This is the second major operation currently happening in the region. Yesterday, two Indian Army soldiers were killed in “Operation Akhal,” an anti-terror mission in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district. The operation has now entered its tenth day, making it one of the longest anti-terror missions in the Kashmir Valley.
The Army confirmed the loss of two soldiers in this operation. “Update: OP AKHAL, Kulgam. Chinar Corps honours the supreme sacrifice of the Bravehearts, L/Nk Pritpal Singh and Sep Harminder Singh, in line of duty for the Nation. Their courage and dedication will forever inspire us. Indian Army expresses deepest condolences and stands in solidarity with the bereaved families. Operation continues,” said the Indian Army.
Elite forces and advanced tech deployed
“Operation Akhal” is being carried out by the Indian Army, including Para Commandos, Rashtriya Rifles, Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF.
Helicopters and drones have been deployed to search for terrorists hiding in the area. The forces are using advanced surveillance tools like drones, thermal imaging devices and elite Para Special Forces for precision strikes.
Four anti-terror operations in two weeks
In the past two weeks, security forces have launched four major anti-terror operations in Jammu and Kashmir. It began with “Operation Mahadev,” where three Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists involved in the Pahalgam terror attack were killed in the Lidwas forest area of Dachigam. All three were Pakistani nationals.
Another mission, “Operation Shiv Shakti,” saw security forces kill two terrorists attempting to infiltrate into Jammu and Kashmir through the Poonch sector. The infiltration bid was foiled, and both attackers were neutralised.
Following these back-to-back encounters, security remains tight across Jammu and Kashmir to prevent any further terror activities.
