The Election Commission (EC) has dismissed Congress leader Jairam Ramesh’s allegations regarding a slowdown in the updating of poll results for Haryana, labeling them as “ill-founded.” The Congress party had raised concerns earlier in the day, claiming there was an “unexplained slowdown” in the posting of election results on the EC’s official website.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Election Commissioner and other officials, Congress general secretary in-charge of communications, Ramesh, noted a significant delay in result updates over a two-hour period from 9 to 11 am. He urged the Election Commission to ensure accurate figures were reported promptly to counter what he described as “false news and malicious narratives.”
Responding to the allegations, the Election Commission stated that the counting of votes was proceeding in accordance with Rule 60 of the Conduct of Election Rules, conducted at designated counting centers by authorized officials. The EC emphasized that the entire counting process in both Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir was being conducted transparently, with the presence of candidates, observers, and micro-observers as mandated by regulations.
“There is nothing on record to substantiate your ill-founded allegation of slowdown in updating results,” the EC asserted, further noting that Ramesh’s memorandum did not provide any evidence of delays at specific constituencies in either Haryana or Jammu and Kashmir.
