DUSU Elections 2025: Counting is underway for the biggest students’ body polls in the country, the Delhi University Students’ Union and the primary contenders for the four key posts are again the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and National Students’ Union of India (NSUI). ABPV is the students’ wing arm of the RSS while NSUI is affiliated to the Congress. The ABVP has won three of the four posts while NSUI could secure only the post of vice president.

ABVP’s Aryan Maan has won the president post as the RSS-affiliated group bagged President Secretary and Joint Secretary posts. NSUI’s Rahul Jhansla has won the vice president seat.

What is pertinent to note here is that most of the students who voted in the polls are Gen-Z, and their choice reflects the mindset towards the bigger leadership. DUSU polls hold significance because the results always show what the youth wants and at a time when Nepal saw Gen-Z rage and Rahul Gandhi and BJP are at loggerheads over the same – the results favour the BJP indirectly.

Earlier, the present DUSU head and NSUI leader claimed that ‘vote theft’ has occurred in the elections and that certain professors are sharing the panel codes of ABVP candidates.

Heavy security was deployed in North Campus on Friday for the vote-counting process for the DUSU elections at the University Sports Stadium. Even drones were deployed to ensure free and fair counting process. The voting took place on Thursday in two phases.

The Delhi High Court has ordered not to take out any victory processions to both sides. The court earlier also asked the Delhi Police, university authorities, and the local administration to ensure that nothing goes wrong in the entire process.

The candidates of DUSU polls

The DUSU has four top posts – President, Vice President, Secretary and Joint Secretary. For the ABVP- Aryan Maan is the candidate for the President post, Govind Tanwar for Vice President, Kunal Chaudhary for Secretary and Deepika Jha for Joint Secretary.

As for NSUI, Joselyn Nandita Chaudhary is the candidate for the president’s post, while Rahul Jhansla contested polls for the vice president post, and Kabir and Lavkush Bhadana are in fray for Secretary and Joint Secretary posts respectively.

‘Vote chori’ claims in DUSU polls

National President of NSUI Varun Choudhary alleged that the Delhi University administration is trying to influence the outcome, claiming that “ABVP goons” are intimidating the students on campus.

Speaking to ANI, Varun Choudhary, exuded confidence of winning all four seats. However, he added that the administration is trying to influence the election.

“The atmosphere is good, but police and ABVP goons are openly roaming around here, harassing students. I haven’t seen such an atmosphere in my last 15 years of student politics. What is the Chief Minister’s husband, Rekha Gupta, trying to achieve by roaming around North Campus? The DU administration is repeatedly trying to influence the elections by using police force,” he said.

Current DUSU president Ronak Khatri said, “We are leveling these ‘vote chori’ allegations because professors are posting ABVP panel codes on their status, and there’s a thumbprint mark in front of ballot number 3 on the EVM. Vote theft has definitely occurred in this DUSU election.”

“As far as the counting is concerned, we will accept the results. But if irregularities are proven, we are also prepared to take the matter to High Court and we do not have any hope from DU authorities,” he added.

On the counting, he said, “Only three rounds of counting have been done so far there are a total of 18 rounds. As of now, in the Vice President’s seat, we are leading by a significant margin. For the Joint Secretary position as well. On President’s seat the margin is high but in the upcoming rounds it will be covered. And, whatever the students’ mandate is, we will accept it,” Khatri further said.

Who won DUSU elections in 2024

In 2024, the DUSU witnessed a split verdict as NSUI claimed the President and Joint Secretary posts, with Rounak Khatri and Lokesh Choudhary securing victories.

On the other hand, the ABVP emerged victorious in the Vice President and Secretary positions through Bhanu Pratap and Mitravinda Karanwal.
