A staff of Ram Lal Anand College, University of Delhi received a bomb threat call today, March 7, at around 9:34 am prompting the evacuation of students.
Responding swiftly, the police, along with Ambulance services, Bomb Disposal Squads (BDS), and Bomb Disposal Teams (BDT), arrived at the college premises, and the students were evacuated as a precautionary measure. Currently, thorough searches and checks are being conducted, but no suspicious items have been discovered thus far. Additional measures are being implemented, according to DCP South West Rohit Meena.
Last week, the Indira Gandhi International Airport also received a bomb threat call for the second time. IGI had earlier received a bomb threat in January. After evacuation and thorough searching, both the threats turned out to be a hoax.
There have been similar incidents of bomb threats in schools and other places in Delhi. Delhi Public School had also received such a call after which an investigation began and the school was immediately vacated. After a search operation, the threat was declared to be false.
A popular eatery in Bengaluru had an explosion on March 1 initially suspected to be an explosion in an object and later declared to be a bomb blast. Five people including the cafe staff were injured.
After the incident, the Delhi Police were on alert and more cautious since IED-related incidents have rocked the capital city in the last years.
The local police unit scaled up their deployment in markets of Delhi and patrolling was increased at vital installations.
