Following the powerful explosion outside Delhi’s Red Fort Metro Station on Monday evening, which killed at least 9 people and injured 24 others, security agencies have issued a high alert across the national capital. The alert also extends to the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, Metro and railway stations in Delhi, and across the National Capital Region (NCR).

The blast took place near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station, prompting heightened security not only in Delhi but also in neighbouring states like Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. Major cities including Mumbai, Kolkata, and Hyderabad have also increased surveillance and security checks in public areas and transport hubs.

Security tightened at IGI Airport, Indian Railways, and Metro Stations

Delhi Police, supported by the National Security Guard and forensic teams, cordoned off the explosion site and began collecting evidence to determine what caused the blast. All key locations protected by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), including IGI Airport, the Delhi Metro network, the Red Fort, and several government offices, have been placed under strict watch.

Officials said security checks have been intensified at IGI Airport, with extra personnel deployed at all terminals. The CISF, which operates under the Ministry of Home Affairs, is responsible for safeguarding major public and private facilities across India.

All railway stations in and around Delhi, including New Delhi and Old Delhi stations, have also been placed on high alert. Dog squads, along with teams from the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF), are carrying out detailed inspections and patrols. Despite the increased security, officials confirmed that train services are running normally without any disruptions.

Flight advisory issued before blast

Earlier in the day, before the Red Fort explosion, the Indira Gandhi International Airport had released a passenger advisory related to scheduled maintenance work. The notice stated that flights would be regulated during a calibration period for the Instrument Landing System (ILS).

“The mandatory flight calibration of the Instrument Landing System will take place at IGIA tomorrow from 11:30 to 13:30 IST, as part of continuous safety practices. Flights will be regulated during this period, and some schedules may be impacted. Kindly coordinate with your airlines to get updated flight information status,” Delhi Airport posted on X.
