Delhi Police arrested two men following a brief encounter in the capital on Thursday. The arrest comes a month after the murder of local Congress leader Baljinder Singh Balli, who was shot dead at his home in Punjab’s Moga.

The police revealed that the arrested duo, identified as Kishan and Gajender, are associates of the fugitive gangster Arsh Dalla, Indian Express reported.

Balli (45), known as “namberdar” among locals, served as the Congress block president in Ajitwal village. He was fatally shot by two assailants who arrived on a motorbike on September 18.

The Delhi Police’s Special Cell received information about the two shooters associated with the Arsh Dalla gang. A police officer said, “After receiving the information, a team intercepted the duo on Outer Ring Road. When they were asked to surrender, Kishan fired his gun towards the police team. His associate also attempted to take out a live hand grenade from his bag to attack the police, but our team swiftly apprehended them.”

The police recovered a live hand grenade, a pistol, and five live cartridges from the arrested individuals and the accused are currently being questioned about the Arsh Dalla gang’s involvement in Balli’s murder.

Shortly after the killing, Arshdeep Singh Gill also known as Arsh Dalla, a native of Dala village in Moga, but believed to be hiding in Canada, claimed responsibility for the murder on Facebook.

He stated, “I am responsible for the murder of Balli in Dala village because it was my own village’s politics that led me down this path.” He accused Balli of mistreating him and his associates, which fueled his desire for revenge.

Punjab Police have already arrested seven individuals in connection with the case, including Sukhveer Singh, Jagjit Singh, and Hardeep Singh of Dala village, Gurcharan Singh Sidhu alias Coach of Takhanwad village in Moga, and Gurdeep Singh, Sukhchain Singh, and Parminder Singh of Khemuana village in Bathinda.
