The capital New Delhi took, as it often does, the top spot. It had an air quality index (AQI) figure of 420, putting it the 'hazardous' category, according to Swiss group IQAir. But it was also joined in the top 10 by Kolkata in India's east, which came in fourth with an AQI of 196, while the financial capital of Mumbai was eighth with an AQI of 163. (Reuters)

At 6 am, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium registered an AQI of 910, Lajpat Nagar recorded 959, and Karol Bagh reported 779, as reported by aqi.in.
According to the central govt's 'Sameer app' data, Sector 51 in Gurugram has worse air with AQI of 357. Other areas of Gurugram have AQI above 200. These are Vikas Sasan (277), NISE Gwal Pahari (262) and Teri Gram (286)

The metropolis was shrouded in haze, with officials attributing the situation not only to firecracker emissions on Sunday but also to prevailing weather conditions typical for this time of the year. During this period, small particulate matter lingers in the air, exacerbated by the presence of fog and smoke. According to West Bengal Pollution Control Board (WBPCB) data, the Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded readings of 284 at Victoria Memorial, 262 at Fort William in Kolkata, and 310 in Ghusuri in the neighboring Howrah district on Monday morning.

Latest reports say that the PM 2.5 concentration in the National Capital has been registered 20 times more than the WHO's limit.
Worst-hit area remains Anand Vihar with AQI of 296, followed by RK Puram (290), 263 in ITO and 280 in Punjabi Bagh, according to the CPCB data.
