The Delhi High Court on Monday summoned Congress leader Shashi Tharoor in connection with a defamation plea filed by BJP leader Rajeev Chandrasekhar. Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav scheduled the matter for hearing on April 28.
“Let the plaint be registered as a suit. Issue summons to the defendant (Tharoor). List before the joint registrar on April 28,” the court stated.
Chandrasekhar alleges that Tharoor made false and defamatory statements in various public forums in April 2024, causing severe damage to his professional and personal reputation. In his suit, the BJP leader has sought an injunction preventing Tharoor from making further defamatory remarks and demanded a public apology.
Additionally, Chandrasekhar has requested Rs 10 crore in damages for the alleged defamation. The case stems from Tharoor’s purported remarks in a television interview, where he allegedly accused Chandrasekhar of offering money to voters during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Chandrasekhar is represented by law firm Karanjawala & Company.
