Kailash Gehlot from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won the Bijwasan assembly seat with an impressive 64,951 votes. In his victory speech, Gehlot credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the success, stating, “This is the victory of Prime Minister Modi. Under his guidance, we have fought this election very well.”
The former transport minister under the AAP government also expressed his belief that the people of Delhi had rejected the politics of lies, highlighting that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Arvind Kejriwal of 2015 are no longer relevant. “The people of Delhi have proved that the politics of lies cannot last long,” he added.
BJP sounding victory in Delhi
With Gehlot’s win, the BJP has secured a significant victory, clinching 37 seats and leading in 11 others, crossing the majority mark of 36 seats needed to form a government in the national capital. This victory marks a monumental shift, as the BJP is set to form a government in Delhi after 27 years, ending AAP’s dominance.
Bijwasan is one of Delhi’s 70 assembly constituencies, created after the delimitation process in 2008. The constituency covers areas such as Dhulsiras, Vasant Kunj, Mahipalpur, Rangpuri, Nangal Dewat, Bijwasan, Samalkha, Bamnauli, Kapashera, Shahbad Mohammadpur, Rajnagar, and parts of Dwarka. In the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections, AAP’s Bhupinder Singh Joon won narrowly with 57,271 votes, edging out BJP’s Sat Prakash Rana. In 2015, AAP’s Devinder Sehrawat won with 65,006 votes, leaving BJP’s Sat Prakash Rana far behind with 45,470 votes.
Kailash Gehlot’s victory marks a decisive shift in Bijwasan’s political landscape, as BJP emerges as a dominant force. With the BJP now poised to lead the government, this victory sets the stage for a new era in Delhi politics.
