The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is expected to hold a Legislative Party meeting in Delhi at 3 pm on Monday (February 17) at the Delhi BJP State Office, according to sources. Earlier on Friday, the BJP confirmed that it will soon announce the name of the new Delhi Chief Minister. In the meantime, news agency ANI reported that sources have indicated the swearing-in ceremony for the Delhi CM could be held at Ramlila Ground on February 18.

BJP national spokesperson Ajay Alok stated, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi is returning (from his foreign visit) by tonight. There will be a meeting of our parliamentary board tomorrow or the day after. Delhi’s new CM will be before you,” as quoted by PTI.

Who will be the new Delhi CM?

Speculation surrounding the new Delhi CM has led to the emergence of five prominent contenders: Parvesh Verma, who defeated AAP’s Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi constituency; Ramesh Bidhuri, who lost to former CM Atishi from the Kalkaji seat; BJP MP Manoj Tiwari; Kapil Mishra; Ashish Sood; Rekha Gupta; and Vijender Gupta. Historically, the BJP has chosen lesser-known figures with relatively low public profiles for the chief minister’s post.

When will new Delhi CM take oath?

ANI reports, sources suggest Delhi CM’s swearing-in may take place at Ramlila Ground on February 18. The BJP’s legislative party meeting is scheduled a day before the swearing-in ceremony, which marks the party’s return to power in Delhi after a 27-year gap. The formation of the new government is expected to gain momentum following Prime Minister Modi’s return to the capital after his trip to France and the United States.

PM Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP president JP Nadda, and other senior party leaders will be involved in finalizing key decisions related to the new government, including the selection of the Chief Minister, council of ministers, and possibly one or two deputy chief ministers.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which had held power for two consecutive terms, secured only 22 seats, while Congress failed to win any seats for the third consecutive time. The election results were announced on February 8.
