Farmers’ Protest: Ahead of the farmers’ march towards Delhi, authorities sealed all borders of the national capital in a bid to prevent their entrance. The security at the borders was heightened with cement barricading and the deployment of police personnel.

However, chaos erupted at the Haryana-Punjab Shambhu border on Tuesday as the protesting farmers tried to remove the cement barricades forcibly.

The farmers were seen attempting to break the multi-layered barricades with their tractors and hand weapons. In a video shared by news agency ANI, protestors can be seen pushing a cement barricade by hand.

Stone pelting incidents were also reported at Shambhu border as police used tear gas shells to disperse protesting farmers during their ‘Delhi Chalo’ march.

As more visuals were released, farmers at the border were seen running towards farmland nearby after the police fired tear gas and water cannons to disperse the protestors.

Protestors also vandalised and threw down the safety barriers from the flyover at Shambhu border.

Concrete slabs, iron nails, barricades, barbed wires, police, and paramilitary personnel were deployed ahead of the march at several parts of the border.

The security measures at Singhu, Ghazipur, and Tikri borders were increased with stringent measures in place along with the imposition of  Section 144.

According to a report by news agency ANI, Sibash Kabiraj, IG, Ambala Range, spoke about the protest and welcomed the farmers from Punjab. However, he said their travel on tractors can create problems for the people and hence will not be allowed to cross the border. The protesting farmers can travel in buses, trains, or on foot, he added.

Farmers associated with the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) and the Samyukta Kisan Morcha staged this march towards Delhi from various regions of Punjab and Haryana, pressing for their demands that the Centre frame a law on MSP for crops, waive farm loans, among others.
