As the 2025 election count in Delhi proceeds, the BJP is comfortably leading the race to victory. According to the ECI website, the BJP and AAP have secured one seat each while the BJP is leading on 46 seats and the AAP has 22 for the contest in 70 constituencies.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) rose to power based on promises to eradicate corruption in Delhi. However, the liquor policy incident and other accusations of corruption against AAP leaders may have weakened the party’s image.

According to a report released by poll rights body Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), the AAP, which rose to power on the back of an anti-corruption campaign, fielded the most candidates with criminal charges in the Delhi elections 2025, followed by the Congress and the BJP.

Overall, 93 candidates from the three parties have declared criminal cases. Of the 70 candidates fielded by AAP, 44 (63%) have filed criminal charges. 29 (41%) of them have been charged in significant criminal cases.

Congress has fielded 29 candidates with criminal records, 13 of whom have been charged with serious crimes. Meanwhile, 20 of the BJP’s 68 candidates had criminal complaints filed against them. Nine of them have been charged in severe criminal offenses.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of being a ‘Avaidh Aamdani wali Party’ (party with illicit income) that exploited Delhi’s money.

“For the Sheesh Mahal, he (Kejriwal) illegally demolished four bungalows and began construction…His corruption is so widespread that even if I take his name in a public meeting for a week, the list of his corruption will never end. On the other hand, Modi ji says what he does…,” said Shah.

The BJP and the Congress had attacked the AAP, accusing it of engaging in corruption and open looting after a Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report allegedly said that the state exchequer lost Rs 2,026 crore as a result of the Delhi government’s since-retracted excise policy.

The study, which has not yet been presented to the Delhi Assembly, purports to expose infractions and shortcomings committed by former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his deputy, Manish Sisodia.
