The bodies of an 18-year-old Pakistani boy and a 15-year-old Pakistani girl were discovered Saturday evening in the sandy dunes of the Sadhewala, Jaisalmer district, according to a report by Times of India. The bodies were found approximately 12 kilometres inside Indian territory and appeared to be four to five days old, blackened and dried.
The report further stated that Pakistani mobile SIM cards and identifying documents found on the individuals confirmed their nationality. The young man was identified as Ravi Kumar (18) and the girl as Shanti (15). The cause of death could reportedly be hunger and thirst, however, the official medical reports are awaited.
According to the TOI report, a shepherd from Gajesingh’s village first alerted the Tanot police station on Friday, reporting the discovery of the bodies on the dunes. After receiving reports from the shepherd, high-ranking police and Border Security Force (BSF) personnel arrived at the scene to intiate investigations. The bodies have been transported to the Ramgarh mortuary, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to officially determine the cause of death.
The circumstances surrounding their presence so deep within Indian territory remain unclear. Authorities are currently investigating whether both individuals had recently crossed the border from Pakistan or had been in India for a longer duration.
BSF IG ML Garg told TOI that a comprehensive search operation is underway along the border area, but as of now, no evidence or footprints indicating a recent crossing from the Pakistani side have been found. The BSF is also in communication with the Foreigners Registration Officer to gather more information and shed light on this incident.
