The Crime Branch seized about 50-60 kgs of explosives during raids in Faridabad’s Sector 56 on Tuesday and arrested two people, according to a report by news agency IANS.

This comes just a day after a deadly blast near Delhi’s Red Fort Metro Station on Monday evening. The blast happened when a Haryana-registered Hyundai i20 car exploded near a traffic signal at Gate No. 1 of Red Fort Metro Station , killing at least 13 people and injuring several others.

Terror module busted earlier in Faridabad

The arrests follow another major case where police had busted a terror module linked to Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind in Faridabad on Monday. In that case, 2,900 kg of explosives and a large quantity of weapons were recovered.

Police said they had earlier arrested two doctors from Jammu and Kashmir – Adil Ahmad Rather and Muzammil – for their connection with these terror outfits.

A case has now been registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), the Explosives Act, and several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

NIA takes over investigation

On Tuesday, The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) formally transferred the investigation of the Red Fort car blast to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The NIA will now head the probe, working closely with the Delhi Police, forensic experts and other security agencies to uncover the exact cause of the blast, identify those involved and examine any possible terror connections.

The decision was made after early findings pointed to a potential fidayeen-style plot by the suspect.

Due to ongoing security operations, Delhi Police have closed Gate Nos. 1 and 4 of the Lal Qila Metro Station.

Police continue to investigate the exact sequence of events that led to the explosion and say they are examining every possible angle.
