COVID-19 surge in India: Active COVID-19 cases in India have touched the 7400 mark showing a steep increase of 269 cases. Kerala leads the chart with over 2100 cases, while Gujarat is not far behind. The death toll has rise by 9 and reach 87 with deaths reported from Kerala, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu.

A significant rise was reported in Karnataka with a rise of 132 cases alone. It crossed the 527 mark with 11 deaths reported so far. However, a rapid increase was noted in Gujarat which showed an exponential headway to report 1437 active COVID-19 cases.

COVID-19 death toll rises

Maharashtra has seen 25 deaths from COVID-19 so far, The state reported 4 fresh deaths on June 14 alone. While Kerala reported 3 and one each from Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu. Experts have shared that the symptoms of the COVID-19 variants NB.1.8.1 and LF.7 are mild. But being highly transmissible, unvaccinated adults with low immunity and underlying health conditions become extremely prone to the COVID-19 JN.1 protein mutations, the most recent strain affecting residents.

Kerala recorded three fatalities: an 83-year-old man with a heart condition, a 67-year-old man with kidney failure following a transplant, and a 61-year-old man with diabetes and high blood pressure. Maharashtra reported four deaths, including elderly patients with multiple illnesses such as diabetes, heart disease, kidney issues, and a cancer patient who also tested positive for COVID-19.

Rajasthan reported the death of a 70-year-old woman with severe lung infection, while Tamil Nadu reported the death of a 73-year-old man with a history of diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke, and other chronic health problems.

COVID-19 updated state-load

While Kerala and Gujarat remain on top, West Bengal remains the third most affected state. With nearly 750 cases alone, the coastal states have reported higher transmissibility of the COVID-19 strain. Further, Delhi comes at number four with 672 cases. The capital reported a significant decline in COVId-19 cases. Himachal Pradesh became the third state with zero active cases so far, joining the list with Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram.
