The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu for October 19, 2024, while an orange alert has been declared for several districts, including Thiruvallur, Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Villupuram, Kallakkurichi, Thiruvannamalai, Ranipettai, Vellore, Tiruppattur, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Thiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukottai, Sivagangai, Ramanathapuram, Madurai, and Kanyakumari, as well as Puducherry.
Forecast for Rainfall
The IMD’s latest weather bulletin indicates that Tamil Nadu can expect “scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall” until October 25. Notably, isolated heavy rainfall is forecasted for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on October 20, 21, and 24. Additionally, heavy rainfall is anticipated in Karnataka on October 20 and 21 and in Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam on October 24.
In particular, the districts of Vandalur, Thiruporur, and Cheyur are currently under orange alert for heavy rains, while a yellow alert has been issued for Maduranthakam, Chengalpattu, Tirukazhukundram, Tambaram, Nemili, and Arakkonam.
As the region prepares for the downpour, residents are advised to take precautions and stay updated on weather conditions to ensure their safety during this period of heavy rainfall.
