The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) found itself into deeper troubled waters on Friday as the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) handed over the probe into the matter of ‘sub-standard’ medicines at Mohalla clinics to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Mohalla clinics were set up by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi under its flagship healthcare project.
The development came a day after Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena recommended another investigation by the CBI into alleged fake pathology and radiology tests at the clinics. It has been alleged that “lakhs of tests” were conducted on “ghost patients” at these clinics to aid private laboratories in the national capital.
Meanwhile, just days ago, Saxena had ordered recommended probe by the CBI into alleged supply of sub-standard medicines to Delhi government hospitals.
Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj on Thursday said people under probe for allegedly supplying sub-standard drugs to city hospitals were chosen by “them” and not his party’s government. At a press conference at the party office, he said if they are saying, “corruption has happened in Mohalla clinics, then suspend the health secretary.”
Bharadwaj further reiterated that he had in September addressed a press conference, announcing the de-empanelment of 26 staffers, including seven doctors, posted at Mohalla clinics, for allegedly trying to manipulate the attendance system. Some doctors would come to the clinics very late and still mark full attendance, while others would bunk the whole day.

All of these developments come even as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) tightens the noose around the AAP leaders in connection with the Delhi excise policy case. The probe agency has issued three summonses to Delhi Chief Minister and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal in the money laundering case but Kejriwal chose to skip all the summonses. The ED is reportedly planning to furnish a fourth summon to question the AAP supremo in the case.
Meanwhile, the central probe agency has already arrested former deputy CM Manish Sisodia and AAP leader Sanjay Singh in connection with the Delhi liquor scam.
