The Centre has directed Union Public Service Counsel (UPSC) to cancel the latest advertisement for lateral entry in bureaucracy. The Union Service Public Commission (UPSC) on Saturday, August 18, circulated an advertisement to recruit 45 joint secretaries, directors, and deputy secretaries across 24 Central Ministries through lateral entry on a contract basis or deputation.
The move by the centre sparked a row and faced criticism from the opposition as well as allies. The advertisement was for the posts of 10 joint secretaries with 35 directors/deputy secretaries required to be filled by September 17.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK chief MK Stalin reacted to the UPSC lateral entry recruitment scheme pushed by the Centre on Tuesday and mentioned it as a direct assault on Social justice. He also added that a caste census is important for Backward classes to secure their rights.
In a post on social media platform X, he mentioned, “Lateral Entry is a direct assault on social justice, depriving meritorious SC, ST, OBC and minority officers of their deserved opportunities at the top. The Union Government must halt this practice, prioritise filling backlog vacancies for OBCs & SC/STs, and ensure fair and equitable promotions,”
Tamil Nadu CM also demanded the complete abolition of the creamy layer and to raise the bar for the creamy layer till its abolition.
On Monday the union Minister Chirag Paswan from Lok Jan Shakti Party showed his disagreement on the advertisement post for the lateral entry without condiering reservations.
He said “The first thing is that the government’s thinking is completely in support of reservation. The Prime Minister’s thinking is in support of reservation. My party and I do not agree with how direct recruitment for some posts has been demanded, in which reservations have not been taken into consideration, we are completely against this. Being a part of the government, we have also registered this concern on the appropriate platform of the government,”
