3 proposed criminal laws seek to provide justice rather than punishment: Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said that the three proposed criminal laws are people-centric, have the flavour of Indian soil and their main purpose is to protect the constitutional, human and personal rights of citizens. Addressing the International Lawyers’ Conference organised by the Bar Council of India here, Shah also said the approach of the three bills is also to provide justice rather than mete out punishment.

Apple to scale up production over 5 times in India to USD 40 bn in 5 years

iPhone maker Apple has plans to scale up production in India by over five-fold to around USD 40 billion (about 3.32 lakh crore) in the next 4-5 years, according to government sources. According to the official, who did not wish to be named, the company has crossed the USD 7 billion production mark in the last financial year.

Fake currency notes with Rs 14 lakh face value seized, 3 held

Three persons were arrested here and fake Indian currency notes with a face value of Rs 14 lakh were recovered from them, police said. The arrests were made during a routine checking on Saturday night in which Ankur Kumar Bind, Surendra Sagar Singh and Kunal Yadav were arrested, they said.

Masked men loot jewellery shop in Delhi

 Four masked men allegedly looted a jewellery shop in Delhi’s Rohini area, police said. The 48-year-old shopowner — a resident of Pitampura — said in his complaint at Vijay Nagar police station that he was calculating the day’s collection on Friday when a man wearing a mask and a helmet entered the shop around 7 pm. He was followed by three other masked men.

Fake currency notes with face value of Rs 1.5 lakh seized in Kolkata, one arrested

Kolkata Police have arrested a Malda-based counterfeit currency racketeer and recovered fake Indian currency notes from his possession, officials said. According to officials, the seizure was made at the Gostho Paul Sarani area of Kolkata and the estimated face value of fake currency notes is Rs 1.5 lakh. The arrested accused has been identified as Majibur Rahaman (42), a resident of Village Mohabbatpur, Malda district.
