Ready to collaborate for building Indian space station: NASA
Stepping up collaboration, National Aeronautics and Space Administration Administrator Bill Nelson on Tuesday said the US was open to helping India build its own space station. On a visit to India, Nelson said the US and India were working on plans to send an Indian astronaut to the International Space Station by the end of next year, while the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will launch the state-of-the-art joint venture satellite with NASA — NISAR — in the first quarter of 2024.
All 41 trapped workers rescued successfully from Silkyara tunnel
After tireless efforts of rescuers which continued for 16 days, all 41 trapped workers were evacuated successfully from the Silkyara tunnel in Uttarakhand. Meanwhile, locals distributed sweets outside the Silkyara tunnel as trapped workers were being rescued from the tunnel. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami met the workers who have been rescued along with Union Minister of State General (Retd) VK Singh. “Initial health checkup of all the workers is being done in the temporary medical camp built in the tunnel,” Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami tweeted.
Stage III restrictions revoked in Delhi-NCR after improvement in air quality
The Centre on Tuesday ordered the revocation of restrictions under Stage-III of GRAP in the entire NCR with immediate effect, following improvement in air quality. The Commission for Air Quality Management in National Capital Region and Adjoining Areas (CAQM), a statutory body responsible for formulating strategies to combat pollution in the region, met on Tuesday in view of the significant improvement in the overall air quality of Delhi-NCR.
High cost of capital a bane for energy transition ahead of COP28
Advocates for the energy transition are concerned ahead of the COP28 summit in Dubai about the high cost of capital available to make change happen, as policymakers ratchet up their rhetoric on the need for tight monetary policy. Russia to start presidential election campaign shortly
Russia’s upper house of parliament will on Dec. 13 officially announce the date of the March presidential election, Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov said on Tuesday – a step that marks the start of overt campaigning. According to Russian law, the upper house of parliament must announce the exact date at least 100 days before the vote. Election day is widely assumed to be March 17. President Vladimir Putin has not yet said whether he plans to run again, although it is generally expected that he will do so, and win. (Reuters)
Ten people die in Ukraine snowstorms, says Interior Minister
Ten people have died in snowstorms in Ukraine, Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said on Tuesday. Icy winds and storms have swept in since Sunday, cutting power and blocking roads, particularly in the south. “As a result of worsening weather conditions, 10 people died in Odesa, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv and Kyiv regions,” Klymenko wrote on the Telegram app. (Reuters)

In latest on the Gyanvapi Mosque issue, the Archaeological Survey of India requested for more time to submit the report. No relief for Tamil Nadu minister
Supreme Court declines to grant bail to Tamil Nadu minister and DMK leader V Senthil Balaji, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case, on health grounds. Supreme Court says Balaji’s condition doesn’t seem to be very serious to get bail and says he can apply for regular bail before the trial court. Balaji’s counsel then withdraws his bail plea from the Supreme Court. (ANI)
Six-year-old girl charred to death, four seriously injured in major fire in Jharkhand’s Hazaribag
A six-year-old girl was charred to death and four others suffered grievous burn injuries in a major fire that broke out in Jharkhand’s Hazaribag town, police said on Tuesday. The incident took place in a busy market area on Malviya Marg where people had lit ‘diyas’ (earthen lamps) on the occasion of Kartik Purnima on Monday evening. (PTI)

Delhi: AQI shows slight improvement after rains
