After a video surfaced on social media allegedly showing Congress leader Rahul Gandhi offering a dog’s biscuit to a supporter following the canine’s refusal, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) swiftly launched an attack on Gandhi, accusing him of feeding dog biscuits to his party worker.

In a video posted by Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra on its X handle, Rahul Gandhi is seen petting a puppy during the yatra in Jharkhand. In the footage, Gandhi requests a packet of biscuits and is observed giving one to the puppy.

Another version of the video, which went viral, showed several supporters attempting to engage with the dog during this time, and amidst the exchanges, Gandhi fed the puppy. At one point, he offers a biscuit to the puppy, and when it turns away, he hands the biscuit to a supporter.

In response to this, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, formerly associated with the Congress, took a jab at Gandhi, asserting that he and his family couldn’t make him “eat the biscuit.”

Sarma gave reference to an earlier incident where, during a meeting with Rahul Gandhi, the latter’s pet dog, Pidi, was given biscuits from a plate, which were then offered to the Congress leaders present. Sarma used this anecdote to question Gandhi’s commitment to party matters, citing it as a reason for his departure from the Congress.

Earlier, the Assam CM and Rahul Gandhi engaged in a war of words during the Assam leg of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra last month.

Another BJP leader, Amit Malviya, took to X and posted, “Just a few days ago, Congress President Kharge ji compared the party’s booth agents to dogs, and here Rahul Gandhi is feeding biscuits to a dog during his visit, and when the dog did not eat, he gave the same biscuits to his worker.”

“If a party whose president and crown prince treat their party workers like dogs, then it is natural for such a party to disappear.”

BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla also slammed Rahul Gandhi over his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, claiming the alleged incident reflected the “elitist mindset” of the Gandhi family.
