Bihar Assembly Election 2025: The battle of Bihar is just weeks away and parties are trying their best to woo voters with schemes and policies. In the run up to the elections, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Tejashwi Yadav said on Thursday promised a scheme for Bihar women promising Rs 2,500 monthly aid for “mothers and sisters”.

Stating that “change is bound to happen” in Bihar this time, the leader of the Opposition in Bihar announced the ‘Mai Bahin Maan Yojana’ across Bihar if his party comes to power.

He said the scheme will benefit a large number of women across different blocks and panchayats in Bihar. “The Maa Yojana will be started, and the Beti Yojana will be started. The Mai Bahin Maan Yojana will be started. A large number of women from every block and panchayat in Bihar have gathered, indicating a strong desire for change,” the former Deputy CM said.

“This time, everyone wants change, and change will happen,” he added.

Oppn’s ‘Mai Bahin Maan Yojana’ to cut CM Nitish Kumar’ women voter base?

The announcement came a day before PM Narendra Modi launched ‘Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana‘ providing Rs 10,000 to 75 lakh women in the state to support their economic independence. Women are considered a trusted voter base for Nitish Kumar.

The scheme, Mai Bahin Maan Yojana, is an electoral promise by the RJD and Congress in Bihar. It promises a monthly financial assistance of Rs 2,500 to women in financially challenged and backward communities, if the INDIA bloc wins the polls and successfully forms the government in Bihar.

Bihar assembly elections are due to complete before November 22. The Election Commission of India (ECI) is likely to announce the schedule in first week of October.

Nitish Kumar running a ‘copycat’ government

Earlier, Tejashwi had lashed out at CM Nitish calling him a “Nakalchi (copycat)”, alleging that he might copy the yojana announced by the opposition also. He said the CM and his government “lacks vision”.

He was speaking at the launch of the “Ati Pichda Nyay Sankalp” programme in Patna, and warned that the current government may adopt policies originally announced by his party.

“This government is a ‘Nakalchi’ (copycat) government. They have no vision. Now, it’s possible that they may copy what we’ve announced today…””People are saying, ‘Do hazar paanch se pachchis, Bahur Hue Nitish’. Nitish Kumar has been hijacked; he doesn’t know what’s happening, he’s in a trance. The Bihar government is being run by two people: Amit Shah and Narendra Modi,” Yadav said, quoted PTI.

He then went on to say that “there are some corrupt officials who are against reservation and the upliftment of backward classes. And if the government is formed, action will be taken”.
