Bengaluru Urban district saw schools and Anganwadi centres shut down on Wednesday as heavy rains loomed on the horizon. In the last 24 hours, the city has recorded 23.6 mm of rainfall, meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a generally cloudy sky with moderate rain and thundershowers. Heavy downpours are expected in the IT hub.
A yellow alert has been issued for Bengaluru till Thursday, October 24, warning residents of persistent heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in various parts of the city. Yellow alert indicates that rainfall could range between 6 cm and 11 cm.

In light of these adverse weather conditions, the Karnataka government has advised companies in the IT, biotechnology, electronics, and private sectors to allow employees to work from home on Wednesday.
The advisory from the Department of IT-BT and Electronics stressed the importance of prioritising the safety and well-being of employees during this challenging weather.
The situation escalated earlier this week when a heavy downpour on Monday caused at least two lakes in the Yelahanka area to breach, leading to flooding in several neighbourhoods and causing significant traffic disruptions. Specifically, Kogilu Lake in Yelahanka and Doddabommasandra Lake in Vidyaranyapura, both managed by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), were affected by the heavy rains.
The Karnataka government has declared a holiday for schools in Bengaluru to ensure the safety of students amid these severe weather conditions.
