A group of at least 20 doctors from various state-run medical institutions in Kolkata met with West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose on Thursday, seeking his intervention after unidentified miscreants vandalized a section of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
The doctors, primarily women, expressed concerns about their safety and feelings of insecurity to the governor, PTI reported.
The vandalism occurred during midnight protests by women across the state, following the alleged rape and murder of a woman doctor in the seminar hall of RG Kar Hospital last week.

“The governor assured the doctors of his full support and pledged to escalate the issue to the highest levels to curb the ongoing hooliganism in West Bengal,” the official told PTI.
In response, Bose has opened ‘Abhaya Home,’ a safe haven for doctors feeling insecure, where they can stay until they regain the confidence to move around freely in West Bengal.
Additionally, the governor’s office launched an ‘Abhaya Portal’ on Thursday morning, offering assistance to any doctor or member of the public who feels distressed and in need of support.
