A Thane district court on Monday remanded a man to 14-day judicial custody after his arrest for allegedly sexually abusing two minor girls at a private school in Badlapur.
The accused man, who worked as an attendant at the school, appeared before a magistrate’s court in Kalyan under tight security after his police custody expired.
The court has placed the accused in 14-day judicial custody and sent him to jail, a police officer said, PTI reported.
In related developments, some members of the school management have also been named in the case, though details have not been disclosed, another police officer said.
The accused, an attendant at the school where the alleged abuse occurred earlier this month, was arrested on August 17. According to the police complaint, he sexually abused two kindergarten girls in the school washroom.
Last week, outraged parents and local residents protested by blocking railway tracks at Badlapur station for 10 hours and vandalizing a local school building. They demanded strict action against the accused.
In response to the protest, the Maharashtra government has formed a special investigation team (SIT), led by senior IPS officer Arti Singh, to investigate the case.
During the protests, at least 25 police personnel were injured in stone-pelting incidents at the railway station and other locations in Badlapur.
