Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Delhi Chief Minister-designate Atishi Singh is all set to take oath on Saturday, September 21, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) said on Thursday.

“Atishi will take oath as the Chief Minister of Delhi on September 21, other ministers will also take their oaths alongside her,” the AAP said in a statement.

The announcement by the AAP came hours after Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena proposed September 21 as the date for the swearing-in of Chief Minister-designate Atishi in a written communication to President Droupadi Murmu.

Atishi, who staked claim to form the government on Tuesday to become the next Delhi CM said that she is happy about the trust posed in her by the outgoing CM but she said that would work to bring him back as the Chief Minister.

The CM-designate is the lone woman minister in the Delhi Cabinet. She was on Tuesday, September 17, unanimously selected for the Delhi Chief Minister’s post by the ruling AAP legislators.

The Kalkaji MLA, who holds the maximum portfolios in the AAP government currently, will take over from party chief Arvind Kejriwal, who tendered his resignation on Tuesday (September 17) with just months left for the Delhi Assembly election.

Kejriwal decided to step down from the CM’s post after he got bail from the Supreme Court in a money laundering case in connection with the Delhi liquor scam.

Several people were contenders for the top post including Saurabh Bhardwaj, Gopal Rai, Kailash Gahlot and Sunita, Arvind Kejriwal’s wife.

Atishi, however, was the frontrunner for the top job as she had assumed a central role in the party after the arrest of Kejriwal and his former deputy Manish Sisodia in the liquor policy case.
