Delhi Water Minister Atishi, who has been on a fast since June 21 in protest over the Haryana government’s allegedly restricted water supply, was taken to the emergency department of Lok Nayak Hospital.

As per the latest update, Atishi has ended her hunger strike while making the announcement AAP minister Sanjay Singh said that Atishi was on a hunger strike for five days due to which her health was deteriorating. “Doctors had been asking her to break the strike as her health started worsening last night. Her sugar level was 43 and her lowest sugar level was 36. Doctors suggested that she had to be admitted immediately otherwise she might lose her life,” Singh said.

He further added that the AAP is writing to the PM to release Delhi’s water. “The indefinite hunger strike is being stopped but we will raise our voice in the Parliament,” he stated.

As per the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), her blood sugar level dropped to 43 mg/dL at midnight and then to 36 mg/dL. The physicians recommended that she be admitted to the hospital right away. “Water Minister Atishi’s health deteriorates. Her blood sugar level dropped to 43 at midnight and to 36 at 3 AM, after which LNJP Hospital doctors advised immediate hospitalisation. She has not eaten anything for the last five days and is on an indefinite hunger strike demanding the Haryana government to release Delhi’s share of water. She’s been admitted to the emergency ICU at LNJP. We pray for her speedy recovery,” the post reads.

Atishi’s blood sugar level fell sharply from 99 mg/dL on the first day of the “paani satyagraha” on June 21 to 71 mg/dL on the fourth day. The ketone level being shown as positive previously caused alarm for the medical assessment team. The expected values for normal fasting blood glucose concentration are between 70 mg/dL (3.9 mmol/L) and 100 mg/dL (5.6 mmol/L), according to the World Health Organisation (WHO).

“The doctors suggested she should be admitted to the hospital before her condition worsens. She is being admitted to LNJP Hospital. She has not eaten anything for the last 5 days. Her sugar levels have dropped, ketone is increasing, and BP is decreasing. She is not fighting for herself, she is fighting for the people of Delhi, for water,” AAP leader Sanjay Singh told ANI.

Atishi claimed in a video message on X on Monday that she had an examination on Sunday and that the results showed a considerable increase in her ketone level and a decrease in her weight, blood pressure, and blood sugar. “The doctors have advised that such a rise in ketone levels is dangerous and can have a long-term negative effect on the body. It can harm health. No matter how bad my health is, no matter how much pain my body is in, my resolve to fast is firm and until 28 lakh Delhiites do not get water, my indefinite fast will continue,” she added.
