Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday appeared before the court through videoconferencing in connection with complaint filed by the Enforcement Directorate against him over non-compliance with its summonses over the excise policy case.

His advocate sought exemption from personal physical appearance in the case due to the ongoing Delhi Assembly Budget Session, following which the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Divya Malhotra granted him relief from personal physical appearance for Saturday.

Senior advocate Ramesh Gupta told the court that the Delhi chief minister will appear before it in person on the next date of hearing.

The matter will be next heard on March 16.

In its complaint, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has alleged that the Kejriwal intentionally did not want to obey the summonses and kept on giving “lame excuses”. If a high-ranking public functionary like him disobeyed the law, it would “set a wrong example for the common man i.e the “Aam Aadmi”, the agency said.

On February 3, the anti-money laundering agency had filed a fresh complaint case against Kejriwal for non-compliance of its summonses. The Delhi CM had earlier called the summons “illegal” and “politically motivated”.
