Renowned music composer A R Rahman, who was admitted to a corporate hospital in Chennai due to dehydration, has been discharged and is now recovering at home, his family confirmed on Sunday. The 58-year-old musician was hospitalised early Sunday morning, according to his manager, Senthil Velan.

Earlier, AR Rahman’s sister, AR Reihana, dismissed reports claiming that he was admitted due to chest pain, clarifying that dehydration was the reason for his brief hospitalisation.

“He had dehydration and gastric problems,” Reihana told PTI Videos. The two-time Oscar and Grammy winner initially also complained of neck pain, added Rahman’s manager.

“He (Rahman) has just come back home. He is perfectly fine. He was hospitalised early this morning… The doctors conducted some tests and everything was normal,” Velan told PTI.

On X, MK Stalin wrote, “As soon as I heard the news that Isaipuyal @arrahman had been admitted to the hospital due to ill health, I contacted the doctors and inquired about his health! They said he is fine and will be back home soon! Happy! (sic).”

In November 2024, A.R. Rahman and his former partner Saira Banu made headlines after announcing their separation following 29 years of marriage. Saira Banu cited health concerns as a key reason for their decision but assured that she would continue to support him. The couple shares three children—Raheema, Khatija, and Ameen.

On the professional front, A.R. Rahman had two major releases this year—Kadhalikka Neramillai (Tamil) and Chhaava. The acclaimed composer is currently involved in multiple projects across various languages.

He is preparing for the release of Thug Life, directed by Mani Ratnam and starring Kamal Haasan, which is expected to hit theaters on June 10. Other highly anticipated projects in his pipeline include Lahore 1947, Tere Ishq Mein, the Ramayana series, Ram Charan’s RC 16, and Gandhi Talks.
