Chandrababu Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party (TDP) is set to return to power in Andhra Pradesh, with a decisive victory in the Assembly elections according to the Election Commission of India’s official trends.
The poll panel data shows the TDP leading in 116 seats, Janasena Party in 16 seats, Bharatiya Janata Party in 7 seats, Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party in 11 seats.
The Andhra Pradesh elections were seen a three-way contest between the ruling YSR Congress Party, the Congress-led INDIA coalition, and the BJP-led NDA alliance, which includes Chandrababu Naidu’s TDP and Pawan Kalyan’s Jana Sena Party (JSP). Exit polls on Sunday predicted a victory for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly elections held on May 13.
The Assembly elections, held in a single phase on May 13 and all 175 seats of the State Legislative Assembly were contested alongside the Lok Sabha elections.
According to the latest reports, Naidu is likely to take oath as the new Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh on June 9. The 74-year-old will become Chief Minister for a fourth time. He served as Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh from 1995 to 2004.
In other reports, incumbent CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is likely to meet the Andhra Governor S Abdul Nazeer and tender his resignation after the poll debacle.
