Air India issued a travel advisory on Monday evening amid heavy rainfall in Mumbai and its surrounding areas. The development came hours after the India Meteorological Department sounded an orange alert for the city and neighbouring districts. Local train services were disrupted and low-lying areas inundated on Monday as the city received more than 100 mm of rainfall within 24 hours.
“Heavy rainfall may impact flight operations to and from Mumbai. Please check your flight status…and allow extra travel time,” the airline urged via X.
Domestic carriers such as IndiGo and SpiceJet also issued similar advisories on Monday — warning about potential delays and disruptions. No flight cancellations have been announced thus far.
“”Heavy rainfall continues across Mumbai, and road conditions remain slow in several parts of the city. Waterlogging and low visibility are being reported on some routes to the airport. If you are travelling today, please allow for extra time and check your flight status on our app or website before you leave for the airport,” IndiGo wrote around 2:00 pm.
“Due to bad weather (rain) in Mumbai, all departures/arrivals and their consequential flights may get affected. Passengers are requested to keep a check on their flight status,” SpiceJet had added in the morning.
