Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has dissolved the Pradesh, district, city, and block committees of the Uttar Pradesh Congress unit with immediate effect, marking a significant step towards reorganisation.

In an official statement shared on X, the Congress announced, “The Honourable Congress President has approved the proposal to dissolve the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee’s state committee, district, city, and block committees with immediate effect.”

The move comes just months after the Lok Sabha polls and follows the recent bypolls in Uttar Pradesh, where the Congress opted not to field candidates, instead supporting the Samajwadi Party and INDIA bloc allies in nine constituencies.

This decision appears to be part of a broader strategy to revitalise the state unit and strengthen the party’s grassroots network, PTI reported.

Congress general secretary (organisation) K C Venugopal also confirmed the development, reiterating that Kharge had sanctioned the proposal to dissolve the committees.

Ajay Rai currently heads the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC).

Last month, the Congress also dissolved the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC), including its district and block units, in a similar restructuring effort. The reorganisation in the Congress-led hill state was its first major structural overhaul since forming the government there.
