In an FIR registered on Monday against AAP legislator Amanatullah Khan for obstructing police officials attempting to arrest a proclaimed offender, the Delhi Police Crime Branch has accused him of having “pushed and manhandled” officers before issuing threats against them.

The incident allegedly occurred on Monday evening when a Crime Branch team, led by Inspector Sunil Kalkhande, was in South East Delhi’s Jamia Nagar area to apprehend Shavez Khan in connection with an assault case.

According to the FIR, police were questioning Shavez at the time. “…but Shavez did not give any correct answer and kept talking about irrelevant things. During this time, the local MLA Amanatullah Khan came there with 20-25 people and said, ‘How dare you come here…’ (He) and his companions pushed and manhandled us and…threatened us…that no one will know where you people have gone and your police and court papers will remain here,” it read.

“Amantullah said, ‘You don’t know who I am, I will get your uniform removed and it doesn’t matter to me if one more case is filed against me, I will finish you off and no one will find a witness to this and even if one finds one, I will take care of it myself. Amanatullah and his companions pushed and grappled with us and got Shavez released and took him away,” the FIR stated.

The report mentions that the team was near Al Taqua mosque following a tip-off about Shavez’s presence in the area. Amid the commotion, he managed to flee, leading officers to conduct search operations late into the evening.

Amanatullah Khan and his supporters have been booked under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including 221 (obstruction of public servants while they are performing their duties), 132 (criminal force or assault against a public servant while they are performing their duties), 121 (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt to deter a public servant from his duty), 191 (rioting), 190 (unlawful assembly), 263 (resistance or obstruction to lawful apprehension of another person), 351 (criminal intimidation), and 111 (organised crime).

Additionally, the FIR names his associates Laddan, Muneer, and Farman, who also allegedly manhandled the Crime Branch team. Anticipating possible unrest, police personnel were stationed outside both Shavez’s residence and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA’s house.

Shavez’s case dates back to 2018, when he and his associates allegedly attacked a group of men near Batla House using rods and guns. According to the FIR in that case, Shavez and one Shabbu, accompanied by four others, confronted the victims in an empty plot. Shavez allegedly opened fire, while his associates attacked with rods. The complainant, Shoaib Umar, reported sustaining a gunshot wound to his right shoulder.
