At least 19 vehicles in the convoy of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav broke down on Thursday night after being refuelled with allegedly adulterated petrol and diesel at a petrol pump in Ratlam. The incident occurred just a day before the Chief Minister was scheduled to visit the district for a regional industry skill and development conclave.
According to officials, the vehicles were refuelled around 10 pm at Shakti Fuels petrol pump in Dosigaon. Shortly after leaving the station, the engines of the vehicles reportedly failed, forcing drivers to push and park them along the road.

Additional Collector Shalini Shrivastava told PTI that as soon as the administration received the complaint, fuel samples were collected and the petrol pump was sealed. “The engines stopped working shortly after refuelling. We acted immediately and sealed the pump,” she said.
Some drivers in the convoy alleged that water had mixed with the fuel, leading to the malfunction. “We came from Indore and refuelled here. A few vehicles stopped on the highway, while others didn’t even leave the pump. We found water mixed in the diesel,” said one of the drivers, Shubham Parmar.
In light of the emergency, additional vehicles were arranged from Indore to ensure the Chief Minister’s visit to Ratlam continued as planned.
Local naib tehsildar Ashish Upadhyay, who is part of the investigation team, stated that officials were questioning the petrol pump staff. Petrol pump authorities suggested that rainwater may have leaked into the underground fuel storage tanks, contaminating the supply. Authorities are also trying to locate the owner of the petrol pump.
An investigation is currently underway to determine the extent of the contamination and whether negligence or foul play was involved.
