As many as 4.78 million people have registered in the PM-‘Vishwakarma’ scheme, which aims to integrate Indian artisans with domestic and global supply chains, to uplift millions of lives in the country.
Vishwakarma scheme was launched in September 2023, and it is being fully funded by the Centre with an outlay of Rs 13,000 crore.
Of the 4.78 million people enrolled on the Vishwakarma portal so far, level 1 verification has been completed for 0.77 million. The second stage verification has been completed for 0.33 million applications while 0.14 million applications were completed for level three verification. A total of 0.13 million applications have been registered successfully.
According to analysts, the ‘PM Vishwakarma Scheme has the scope to make the Indian craft sector a multi-billion-dollar marketplace with the right support and business environment.
Under the scheme, each artisan will be provided recognition through PM Vishwakarma certificate and ID card, skill upgradation involving basic and advanced training, toolkit incentive of Rs 15,000, collateral-free credit support up to Rs 1,00,000 in first tranche and Rs 2,00,000 in second tranche at a concessional interest rate of 5%. During training times Rs 500 per day allowance will be provided to the artisans.
