The trek route to Kedarnath, damaged by a cloudburst in Junglechatti near Lincholi last Wednesday, has been surveyed by department officials who have set a seven-day timeline to repair the damage.

The team conducted an aerial survey and on-spot inspection, and with over 10,000 people already rescued from Kedarnath, Bhimbali, and Gaurikund, the goal is to restore the route to normal usage as soon as possible.

According to an official release, Disaster Management Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman and Garhwal Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey have issued a seven-day deadline to restore the trek route, PTI reported.

Public Works Department (PWD) officials, who inspected the area, identified 29 damaged spots requiring repair.Among these, the most challenging tasks will be fixing a 60-meter washed-out stretch in Junglechatti and a 15-meter damaged section in Ghodapadav near Gaurikund.

The National Highways Authority of India has requested suggestions from all relevant departments on how to ensure a smooth journey for pilgrims within the given timeline. They have been instructed to prepare an estimate for the necessary reconstruction and commence work immediately.

In addition to Vinod Kumar Suman and Vinay Shankar Pandey, other officials who visited the affected areas included PWD Secretary Pankaj Pandey and Chief Engineer of National Highways Dayanand.
