Heavy rains in the Tehri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand caused significant damage to a road connecting Budhakedar and Jhalabeen villages, officials confirmed on Thursday. The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning, disrupting local connectivity and damaging equipment used for road maintenance.

No casualties reported but equipment damaged

District Disaster Management Officer Brijesh Bhatt provided further details, stating, “The PMGSE’s reconstructed road has been damaged due to the rain on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday in the Budhakedar area. A Pokelin machine has been damaged. The road from Budhakedar to Jhala has been damaged. There has been no loss of life or animal loss.”

Despite the damage, no injuries or fatalities were reported. However, an earth mover machine, used for road repairs, was significantly damaged during the incident.

Badrinath National Highway also affected

Earlier on Thursday, a portion of the Badrinath National Highway was blocked by debris near Nandprayag and Chatwapipal. Authorities quickly responded, restoring vehicular movement after clearing the highway. The Badrinath Highway has been frequently blocked this monsoon due to ongoing adverse weather conditions.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of more rainfall in the region, forecasting isolated heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand from September 25 to 27. Similar weather is expected in parts of Uttar Pradesh later this week.
