Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren inaugurated the much-awaited Kantatoli flyover in Ranchi, marking a significant development in reducing traffic congestion in the state capital. Soren also announced the launch of 31 road infrastructure projects which will cost around 3,624 crore. Among these projects, there will be four new flyovers-one each in Dhanbad and Jamshedpur and two in Ranchi.

All about Kantatoli flyover

The Kantatoli flyover has been constructed in a record of just two years and will connect to the upcoming Siramtoli flyover and then the length of the flyover will be approximately 5 kilometres. The current flyover length is 2.4 kilometers and has been constructed with a cost of Rs 224.94 crore. Around 486 precast segmental boxes which are supported by 42 spans are being used during the construction. To enhance illumination and safety, around 125 electric poles have been installed throughout the flyover.

Kantatoli Flyover delay reason

The project was proposed in the year 2017, the Kantatoli flyover faced several delays under the previous BJP government, despite several promises to complete it on time. Initially, the project was planned to be 905 meters long and had an estimated budget of Rs 192 crore. The projects faced multiple roadblocks because of issues in designs and problems in land acquisition. These were the reasons which led to the delay of the project. Later, the project was expanded to 1,250 meters and the budget was revised by Rs 257 crore.

After taking office in 2019, CM Soren prioritized the flyover construction. He directed the Urban Development Department redesign and installed a precast segmental box girder system to expedite the construction work and minimize the traffic disruption. This decision played a major role in the timely completion of the project.

Ranchi’s future infrastructure plans

The Jharkhand CM has also laid the foundation of a new 1.25-kilometer flyover which will connect Siramtoli and Kantatoli with a budget of Rs 213.35 crore. Another project which was launched by him was construction work on a 3-kilometer flyover interlinking Harmu and Sahjanand which will cost around Rs 430.75 crore. Soren, while addressing the public, stressed the importance of conducting environmental impact valuation before introducing major road and infrastructure projects. The completion of the Kantatoli flyover will help in developing Ranchi’s infrastructure growth along with improving connectivity and reducing traffic congestion.
