In a significant push for modern road connectivity in Karnataka, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari on Thursday (February 22) inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 18 National Highway Projects totaling an investment of Rs 13,458 crore. 

These projects were launched by Gadkari in Belagavi and Shivamogga in the southern state. 

Projects worth Rs 6,168 crore inaugurated in Shivamogga

Furthermore, Gadkari also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for an additional set of 18 National Highway Projects with a total investment of Rs 6,168 crore. 

Notable sections include the Bhanapur Gaddanakeri Section, improving access to historic sites like Hampi, Aihole, Pattadakallu, and Badami. The Ankola-Gooty Section, passing through Hubballi City, links to North Karnataka’s major APMC and the Shri Siddarudha Math pilgrimage site.

The Arabail to Idagundi Section strengthens connectivity to Karwar and Mangaluru ports. The Maharashtra Border to Vijayapur section contributes to the industrial growth of Kalyana Karnataka, connecting Vijayapur’s sugar industries and the cement belt in Miriyan, Chincholi, and Kalaburgi. 

Other sections, including the Bellary Bypass and Bellary to Byrapura, aim to ease congestion and boost interstate connectivity. The Mudigere to Chikkamagaluru section is expected to uplift Malnad’s agriculture and pilgrimage sites.

The ceremony witnessed the presence of key dignitaries, including Karnataka PWD Minister Shri Satish Jarkiholi Ji, Members of Parliament, MLCs, MLAs, and Senior Officials.

These strategic road initiatives are set to transform the region into a world-class network, playing a pivotal role in fostering economic growth and generating employment. 

Beyond their economic impact, the projects will enhance the agricultural and tourism sectors, showcasing a dedicated commitment to advancing connectivity and prosperity throughout North Karnataka.
