Light to moderate rain lashed in Jammu district resulting in a landslide that blocked the Kishtwar-Paddar road on Sunday. The massive landslide has halted all vehicular movement near Patharnaki in Kishtwar district this afternoon.

The officials reported that the machines were immediately moved to the scene to clear the road at the earliest.

Relief through rain

The rain has dropped down the valley temperature, providing some relief to people from the scorching heat. As per weather reports, hilly districts of Jammu like Kishtwar, Doda, Rajouri, Poonch, Udhampur and Ramban received light to moderate rains throughout the day.

Jammu experienced a high of 36 degrees Celsius and a low of 26.3 degrees Celsius, which is typical for this time of year, according to a spokesperson from the meteorological department.

Katra, the base camp for pilgrims visiting the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Reasi district, recorded a maximum temperature of 32.9 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 24.6 degrees Celsius.

The spokesperson predicted light to moderate rain or thundershowers at many places in the Jammu division late at night or early in the morning until July 3. This will be followed by intermittent light to moderate rainfall at most places, with heavy showers at a few locations from July 4 to 7.

The weather department has also issued an advisory for flash floods, landslides, and shooting stones in some vulnerable areas, along with moderate thunderstorms or lightning in some places in the coming week.
