The Jammu-Srinagar national highway, which connects Kashmir with the rest of the country, remained closed for the second day on Friday due to landslides at various places.

As per the officials, authorities are trying to clear the landslip debris and restore the traffic on the road connecting Kashmir, to bring normalcy in vehicular movement. 

“More than 400 vehicles are stranded at various places along the highway”, the officials said.

Earlier on Thursday, the arterial 270 km road was closed for traffic following landslides at several places, including Sherbibi, Magerkote, Mehad Cafeteria, and Dalwas, along the highway, the officials said.

T2 tunnel closed 

The Jammu-Srinagar highway’s T2 tunnel has been blocked due to shooting stones.

The Jammu-Srinagar NHW is blocked due to shooting stones at T2 following heavy rainfall along NHW and snowfall between Ramsoo and Banihal, media reports stated. 

The authorities have advised people to avoid journeys on NHW until the road is cleared and to consult the traffic control unit before starting their journey.

Besides this, officials also mentioned that the Mughal road and Srinagar-Sonamarg road are already closed due to snow accumulation.

Kashmir received fresh snowfall and rains during the last 24 hours while the Meteorological Department (MeT) predicted more precipitation during the next 24 hours.

The MeT issued a prediction of cloudy weather during the daytime, accompanied by the likelihood of light to moderate rain and snow at various locations in J&K during the next 24 hours.
