Delhi is once again battling waterlogging in several areas after the monsoon season poured heavily upon it. Due to severe water logging in the Capital city, the Pragati Maidan tunnel remained closed today, June 29, PWD officials have said.
The draining of the tunnel is ongoing and is likely to be opened by late night today.
After 12 hours of effort by authorities, water was drained from the Minto Bridge underpass and many other parts of the city. The Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) reported receiving over 200 calls about waterlogged areas on Friday.
It took the officials 12 hours to drain the water out of the Minto Bridge underpass post which it was opened for vehicular traffic.
PWD officials stated that it took 4-5 hours to drain water from areas such as the Moolchand underpass, Zakhira, Dhaula Kuan, and Adchini, while waterlogging complaints in Seelampur, Krishna Nagar, and Badli were resolved within 2-3 hours. The PWD also got two or three complaints of falling trees.

According to data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Safdarjung, the city’s primary weather station, recorded 228.1 mm of rainfall.

The 228.1 mm of rainfall recorded in the 24 hours ending at 8:30 am on Friday was more than three times the June average of 74.1 mm and the highest for the month since 1936.
Delhi experienced its highest single-day rainfall on Friday for June in 88 years, flooding streets and leaving commuters stranded.
