In an announcement that spells good news for Mumbai’s local train commuters, the Western Railway revealed plans to expand its suburban services by adding 12 new services and converting ten existing services to 15-coach trains from the current 12-coach configuration.
According to a release by the Western Railway, the upcoming changes are scheduled to take effect on October 12 with the implementation of a new suburban train timetable.
The introduction of the new services, comprising six UP and six DOWN services, will bring the total count of suburban services offered by the Western Railway to 1,406, an increase from the current 1,394 services.
Describing it as a “festival gift to Mumbai,” the release highlighted the launch of four new services specifically between Dahanu Road and Virar, catering to the demands of passengers on this popular route.
Furthermore, with the conversion of ten services to 15-coach trains, the number of 15-coach services provided by the Western Railway will see a rise to 209, promising enhanced comfort and convenience for commuters.
The Western Railway’s expansive suburban network stretches from Churchgate in south Mumbai to Dahanu Road in Palghar district, catering to over 30 lakh daily passengers who rely on its trains for their daily commute.
The new additions and upgrades in services are expected to alleviate congestion, enhance the travel experience, and streamline commuting for the vast number of individuals who rely on the Western Railway’s suburban network.
