The Indian Railways has temporarily suspended the sale of platform tickets at 15 major stations, including those in Delhi and Mumbai. The move has been taken to ensure smooth passenger movement and safe boarding and deboarding at busy stations amid Diwali and Chhath Puja.

The platform tickets will be unavailable until October 28, 2025. However, for senior citizens, ailing passengers, children and lady passengers who require assistance, platform tickets will be issued, as per Railway Board guidelines.

In these five stations: CSMT, Dadar, LTT, Thane, Kalyan and Panvel, the restriction on the platform ticket sales will be in place from October 16, 2025. Railways have also urged passengers to plan their travel accordingly and cooperate with railway authorities to ensure a smooth and safe journey experience during the festive season.

Holding areas at New Delhi Railway Station

Northern Railway has completed a permanent holding area at the New Delhi Railway Station’s Ajmeri Gate side. The holding area has been built to manage increased foot traffic during festivals. The facility can comfortably accommodate up to 7,000 passengers simultaneously, ensuring smoother passenger flow and crowd management.
