Patna metro launch: Bihar on Monday received a big gift as the capital city Patna witnessed the grand inauguration of the first phase of its maiden metro service, which also happens to be the state’s first ever metro train service. The inauguration comes right before the announcement of assembly elections in Bihar. The Election Commission of India (ECI) will announce the dates for the polls on Monday (October 6).
The Patna Metro services will officially open to the public on Tuesday (October 7), making it the first ever metro to run in the state of Bihar. CM Nitish has launched the first stretch of the Blue line (also called priority corridor) between ISBT (Patliputra Bus Terminal) and Bhootnath, which covers a distance of 3.6 km.

The stretch has three stations:
- ISBT (Patliputra)
- Zero Mile
- Bhootnath
Patna metro blue line
The blue line priority corridor of the Patna metro is expected to reduce traffic congestion at key stretches with its 6.6 kilometres length. The entire system has been made in coordination of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and the Government of Bihar. The corridor has elevated tracks, automatic doors, security systems, and announcements in both Hindi and English.
The metro coaches can accommodate a total of 158 seated passengers, and has an additional standing space for up to 940. The metro cabins have modern facilities like charging points for mobiles and laptops, front emergency doors and bi-parting sliding doors for safety. The interior design of the metro reflects Bihar’s cultural heritage, featuring motifs of local landmarks such as Mahavir mandir and more.
Once operational fully, the Blue line (north-south corridor) will have 12 stations that will take 24 minutes to travel from one end to another and covers a distance of 16.2 km.
Patna metro red line
The Patna metro has two metro lines – Blue line and Red line. The Red line is the East-West corridor which covers a distance of 18.5 km and has 15 stations. It will take 32 minutes from end-to-end travel with interchange between the two lines at Patna junction.
Ticket prices and timings
The metro will start running 8 am and up to 10 pm daily. The prices are as low as Rs 15 and go up to a maximum price of Rs 30.
With the launch, Patna has joined the leagues of metro cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai and others.
