The Indian Railways has brought in a very positive update for the people of two critical cities of the country — Bengaluru and Mumbai — as the Ministry of Railways has finally approved a super fast train between the two capitals. Currently, there is only one super fast train that runs between Bengaluru and Mumbai. Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya made the announcement saying that after 30 years of wait, the two cities will finally have another super fast train connecting them.
Bengaluru is the IT-hub of the country housing hundreds of IT, consultancy and other companies as well as start-ups. Similarly, Mumbai, the financial capital of the country, has corporate and other key offices of many top firms. Both Bengaluru and Mumbai, being the capital of Karnataka and Maharashtra respectively, are key to a number of administrative activities.
So far, there is only one superfast train, Udyan Express, that runs between the two cities and takes over 24 hours to reach its destination.
‘More super fast trains possible’
Sharing a lengthy post on X, BJP’s Tejasvi Surya stressed on how the people of two cities were forced to opt for expensive mode to travel due to lack of superfast trains.
“I have some great news for the people of Bengaluru and Mumbai. From last 30 years, our two great cities were connected by only one super fast train -Udyan Express. Even that train took more than 24 hrs to reach. This forced most people to inevitably take bus or flights. Travel was expensive and uncomfortable,” he said.
The MP mentioned that there has been a consistent demand from people of both the cities to start more train services. “I had raised this issue multiple times in Parliament, PAC meetings, with Railway Board Chairman and with the Railway Minister, over the last four years. It is just baffling that such important economic nodes as Bengaluru and Mumbai didn’t have more than one direct super fast train from so long,” he added.
I have some great news for people of Bengaluru and Mumbai.

Praising Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Surya said the “most dynamic and erudite Railway Minister” has made more super fast trains possible by increasing lane capacity in both Bengaluru and Mumbai Railway stations.
“I also thank our own Sri V. Somanna Ji for all his support,” he said, adding that “In the coming days, rail travel between the two cities will increase and will benefit lakhs of people. Gratitude to PM Narendra Modi ji and Ashwini Ji for making this happen!”
Ashwini Vaishnaw confirms development, praises Tejasvi
In the video message shared in the X post by Bengaluru MP Tejasvi Surya, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw is heard praising the latter for his persistent follow-up on the issue. The minister also confirmed that the capacity of both Bengaluru and Mumbai have been increased to run more trains between them.

“And as you are aware, we are increasing the capacity of the large city like Bengaluru…now we have capacity, both in Bengaluru as well as in Mumbai, so very soon, we will start a super fast train between Bengaluru and Mumbai…” he added.
