The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) to modernize India’s railway infrastructure. This partnership aims to advance safety, operational efficiency, and technology integration for Indian Railways.
Under this collaboration, IIT Delhi’s researchers will undertake R&D projects focused on improving railway security, scheduling, intermodal connectivity, and revenue optimization. Faculty members from the departments of Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, and Management Studies will contribute their interdisciplinary expertise to tackle these complex challenges, setting Indian Railways on a path toward becoming safer and more efficient.
Professor Preeti Ranjan Panda, Dean of Corporate Relations at IIT Delhi, expressed optimism about the MoU, stating, “This partnership with CRIS is a major step toward elevating India’s railway infrastructure.” The collaboration aligns with IIT Delhi’s commitment to supporting national infrastructure through innovative research and bridging academia with industry.
GVL Satya Kumar, Managing Director at CRIS, highlighted that the collaboration with IIT Delhi aligns with CRIS’s mission to leverage advanced technologies to benefit Indian Railways. “With the research expertise of IIT Delhi, CRIS is optimistic these projects will bring considerable advancements in railway operations and enhance passenger experience,” he noted.
By combining academic research with practical railway applications, this partnership sets a benchmark for research-driven collaborations in India’s transportation sector, fostering sustainable development and modernization across the network.
