In the Union Budget 2024-25, the central government has allocated Rs 5,147 crore for Punjab for the development of rail infrastructure in the state, said Union Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw, on Wednesday.
“Rs 5,147 crore allocated to the State of Punjab for development of rail infrastructure in the budget for the year 2024-25,” said the minister.
As per the Ministry of Railways, the average outlay increased from Rs 225 crore in 2009-14 to Rs 5147 crore in 2024-25, an increase of 23 times!
Allocation in 2024-25 is approx 2,188 per cent more than the average of 2009-14, the minister further said in a post on X.
The state will benefit from this “record Budget allocation”, the minister said and added that in Punjab, “Rs 19,843 crore worth of projects are presently going on.”
On Tuesday, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Modi government 3.0’s Budget. In the Union Budget 2024-25, the central government has allocated a capital expenditure of Rs 2,62,200 crore for developing railway infrastructure in the country.
In 2023-24, the Modi govt allocated Rs 2,40 lakh crore. In the FY22-23, the allocation was Rs 1.40 lakh crore.
Under the ownership of the Ministry of Railways, Indian Railways is a statutory body of the Government of India (GOI).
